Moss, enlarged pins
Various size
2024
For an intervention at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, patches of moss were pinned to the architecture with pins. The moss symbolises the green façades that can currently be found in urban spaces as harbingers of a green future. These buildings thus oscillate between greenwashing and present images of a future that could influence climate-friendly behaviour.
As seed cells of this future, the moss is slowly spreading on the façade, but as it is still a vision, it has not grown on the architecture, but is attached to it on a trial basis. Mosses have assimilating and equalising properties that could be interesting for museums of the future, such as temperature regulation or air filtration.
Moss also provides an important habitat for many different living organisms and is therefore partially protected.
Creating and protecting habitats is also desirable in a figurative sense in cultural institutions.
The moss was harvested for the intervention from a garden that was to be cleared of moss and was replanted in its natural habitat after the intervention.
